The lay of the land
The Costa del Sol earned its nickname — the Costa del Golf — for a reason: more than 70 courses along a 100-kilometre stretch of coast, many of them designed by legends such as Robert Trent Jones, Dave Thomas and Cabell Robinson. Golf here is a lifestyle, not just a hobby: properties on or near the fairways carry a premium, hold their value, and rent exceptionally well in season.
For buyers, the appeal is simple. Wake up to fairway views, walk to the first tee in the morning, and still be on the beach in the afternoon. The golf property market on the Costa del Sol spans everything from compact apartments in Mijas Golf to multi-million-euro villas overlooking Valderrama, with Nueva Andalucía, La Quinta, El Paraíso and Guadalmina as the most sought-after addresses.
At Marbella Specials we currently list 181 properties for sale with a golf connection — 102 apartments, 88 villas, 24 new developments, 16 penthouses, 14 plots and 9 townhouses — across Marbella, Benahavís, Estepona, Mijas and Sotogrande.
What buyers are doing
Golf property prices on the Costa del Sol follow the course hierarchy. At the top sits the Valderrama–Sotogrande axis and the Golden Mile, where villa prices run into the millions. In the middle, La Quinta and El Paraíso in Nueva Andalucía offer villas and apartments from the mid-hundreds of thousands. At the accessible end, Mijas Golf and La Cala de Mijas deliver apartments from around €200,000–300,000 — some of the best value golf property on the coast.
As a rule of thumb, fairway-front properties hold value better than inland equivalents, and golf views add a measurable premium at resale. New developments around existing courses — particularly in Benahavís and Estepona — have been among the fastest-selling stock on the coast.
Day-to-day life
Golf living on the Costa del Sol is about more than the round itself. The course communities — Nueva Andalucía, La Quinta, El Paraíso, Guadalmina, Mijas Golf, Marbella Club, Rio Real — each have their own rhythm: clubhouse dining, tennis, padel, gyms, and a social calendar that runs all year, not just in summer.
The courses are genuinely playable in every season: the region averages more than 320 sunny days a year, and winter temperatures rarely drop below 15°C. That is why so many northern European buyers — British, Dutch, German, Scandinavian — choose golf property here as a second home they actually use, and why the rental market for golf apartments and villas stays strong from October to April, when most of Europe is grey.
Beaches
Most golf communities are 5–15 minutes from the coast: Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and San Pedro beaches serve the western Marbella courses, while Mijas Golf and La Cala are 10 minutes from the beaches of La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola.
Schools nearby
The golf corridor has strong international schooling: English College and Aloha College in Marbella, The British International School in Sotogrande, and Swans, Laude San Pedro and Calpe International School in the Benalmádena–Mijas area.
Healthcare nearby
Private hospitals and clinics are concentrated in Marbella (Quirónsalud, HC Marbella, Vithas Xanit) and Málaga, all within a 30–50 minute drive of the main golf communities. Both Spanish public healthcare and private international insurance are widely used by residents.
Golf
The Costa del Sol's standout courses: Valderrama (Sotogrande, Spain's No.1), Real Club de Golf Sotogrande (Robert Trent Jones), La Quinta (Marbella, 27 holes), Los Naranjos (Golf Valley), Aloha (Golf Valley's oldest), Las Brisas (Dave Thomas), Guadalmina (two Trent Jones layouts), El Paraíso, Santa María, Rio Real, Marbella Club Golf Resort (where celebrities tee off) and Mijas Golf's two courses. Annual green fees range from €60–120 on most courses in season.
